Police Investigate Thefts In Cooma



Police in Cooma are investigating a series of thefts from motor vehicles and the theft of three motor vehicles overnight on Tuesday 7th January 2013. During the morning of Wednesday 8th January, Cooma Police have received reports of 14 separate incidents of stealing from motor vehicles. They have been centred around Cooma North and Cooma East areas. Reports so far are of the theft of minor amounts of cash and some electronic devices, including mobile phones and ipads, as well as some sunglasses.
During the morning reports were also received regarding the theft of two motor vehilces and a motor cycle.
A white Mazda sedan was reported stolen from an address in Orana Avenue Cooma North, which was later recovered in Cooma East.
A further report was received regarding the theft of a silver Nissan Navara table top ute from Cooma East, which remains outstanding.
Later another report was received relating to the theft of a green Kawasaki trail bike from Cooma North. This also remains outstanding.
Police also want to remind people to make sure they lock their vehicles when they are left unattended, even for a short time, and when they are parked at home. Valuables should, where possible, be removed from the cars, or at least hidden from view.
Police are requesting anyone with information relating to these matters to call Cooma Police on 64520099.

Weather Warning: Fire Ban + Damagind Winds Forecast.

There is a total fire ban in force across the region today with a warning of extremely warm temperatures for this time of year and
strong winds.

It's expected to reach 27 degrees in the Monaro with low humidity and winds could get up to as high as 110 kilometers per hour with a cool change not expected until later tonight.

The rural fire service is now mobilising its resources throughout the state for the potentially catastrophic conditions and Fred Nicholls from the Monaro team says all permits are cancelled
and people need to be extremely careful.

Plane Crash Claims A Life In Snowy Mountains

A Tumut man reported missing over the weekend has now been found deceased inside an ultralight plane near the snowy mountains.

The former Deputy Mayor of Tumut Ben Dumbrell, was found inside the plane wreck at Adelong on Monday morning.

A family member had reported the 65-year-old missing at 9pm on Sunday after Mr Dumbrell failed to return home after a planned trip to Holbrook.

His family have reportedly told police he was an experienced pilot who had been flying since the age of 24.

The cause of the crash is not yet known, however it's believed to have occurred shortly after takeoff and a report is now being prepared for the coroner.

Shaun White In The Snowy Mountains?

Olympic snowboarder Shaun White is considered one of the best snowboarders of all time and there have been a number of reported sightings of the star athlete in the Snowy Mountains over the last 24 hours.

It's rumored that a large super pipe has been built for White at Perisher Ski Resort, where White is said to be training for the 2014 Winter Olympics and shooting for his sponsor Go Pro.

Reports suggest that a large cutter was delivered to the Smiggins workshop in Perisher for the super pipe setup.

Perisher Ski Resort have declined to comment.

White has competed in the Winter X-Games since 2002, amassing eight medals, including the first four-peat by a male athlete in one discipline. In 2006, he won the gold medal in the men's halfpipe at the Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy. He went on to win another gold in the men's halfpipe in 2012, at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

White is also a professional skateboarder, gaining inspiration from legend Tony Hawk, whom White met at age nine. In 2006, he won first place at the Dew Action Sports Tour's Right Guard Open in skateboard vert. He is the only skater to land the bodyvarial frontside 540.

Known for his shock of red hair, he is often called the "Flying Tomato," or Il Pomodoro Volante in Italy, where he is also popular. White signed his first sponsorship at age 6 with Burton snowboards. He has had a full roster of sponsors throughout his career, including T-mobile, Target, Mountain Dew, HP and Go Pro.

Funnel Web Bite Sparks WARNING For Local Residents

A new warning about the dangers of poisonous creatures around the Monaro
has been issued following a recent incident where a Bombala resident was bitten by a
funnel web spider.

New South Wales ambulance is now asking people to be mindful that the
warmer temperatures has coincided with increased potential for bites
from both snakes and spiders as they leave hibernation in search of food.

What to do if a funnel web bites you:

  • Call 000
  • Ring the NSW Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26
  • Apply bandage and keep firm pressure over bite
  • Keep affected area as still as possible to prevent venom spreading
  • Loosen clothing, remove rings and tight jewellery

Jindabyne House Fire Investigations Continue

Investigations are continuing into the cause of a blaze that destroyed a
house in east Jindabyne yesterday.

Jindabyne's Fire Rescue New South Wales Unit and the Jindabyne East Rural
Fire Brigade were called to the vacant farm house on Jerrara Drive about
3.20am yesterday.

The crews  managed to gain control of the blaze within approximately half an hour.

Goulburn's crime scene forensic police and detectives also visited the
scene, although the cause of the blaze is still reportedly unknown due to the
degree of damage.

Jindabyne police are now continuing their inquiry.
